The Most Common Reasons For Dry Skin:
- The Weather has a tremendous impact on the condition of our skin.
There is always an increase of the condition during the winter time because of the low humidity and dry air it causes. Also, the dry heat we create to warm ourselves in doors makes matters even worse.
- Using water that are too hot, or spending an excessive amount of time in the shower. Hot, long showers tend to remove the protective oils our skin produces which help maintain a moist skin.
- Using soap for cleaning your face is one of the worst things you can do to your skin as they contain various chemicals that dry and damage it.
- Excessive drying of the face using a towel.
- A bad diet which lacks vitamins like Vitamin A and B and Omega 3, as well as excessive smoking, and excessive drinking of alcohol and caffeine are known factors of dry skin.
- Excessive exposure to the sun without a proper sunscreen is extremely unhealthy, and could lead to dry skin, not to mention it increases the chances of melanoma.
Tips for Getting Rid of Dry Skin On The Face:
- When using a towel to dry your face, avoid rubbing the skin and instead start to dry it using a patting motion.
- Improve your diet by adding fish, whole grain foods, fruits and vegetables, and avoid processed sugar and fried food.
- Start using a soap substitute like a facial cleaner fitting your skin type.
- Moisturizing is one of the main keys to fight off dry skin, start applying it regularly.
I recommend using natural moisturizers like Aloe Vera or Coconut Oil.
- Start taking shorter showers if you find it hard to quit using hot water. On the other hand if you want to take long showers, use lukewarm water throughout the shower.
- Consider installing a humidifier in your home, it does an amazing job in raising the humidity thus improving your skin condition.
- Exercising increases blood circulation and stimulates the skin.
* You may have noticed that as opposed to other writers that share tips for getting rid of dry skin on the face, I have refrained from recommending increased water intake as it is considered a myth by professionals.
